24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
Let’s break this story down.
There are 2 houses in this story.
These houses are very similar. In fact, to the casual passerby they may appear cosmetically identical. The difference between these two houses is hidden – it is the foundation.
The 2 houses represent 2 different ways we can live.
House number 1: This represents the person who builds their life on the Bible and on good teaching. They hear the teachings of Jesus and follow them. This is a life built on solid rock.
House number 2: This is the kind of person that still knows the Bible and has heard plenty of preaching. But they lack execution and struggle to follow through in life. This is a life built on shifting sand.
Lessons for our lives:
1. The violence of these storms will hit both houses
2. The difference is in the response of the houses
What kind of foundation are you building your life on? The best thing is to answer that now, because one day the storm will answer that for you.
Take hope – a life built on the right foundations can survive any storm!
